As a community, we are proud to be taking steps to combat climate change. In 2019, the Village of Nyack began a partnership with five other Rockland communities to create Rockland Community Power to increase our access to cheap, 100% renewable electricity. As of December 2020, 24,000 households in Rockland County have been switched to the new 100% renewable supply without the hassle of contracts or penalties through Rockland Community Power’s first program, Community Choice Aggregation, (CCA).
We are excited to share a second, fully vetted renewable energy opportunity available through Rockland Community Power: Community Solar. Both programs work well together to save you money and support renewable energy in NYS. We encourage you to participate in both programs.
By enrolling in our community solar program, as a resident (renter or owner) or a small business you can:  Access the benefits of solar without needing to install solar panels on your rooftop or property*  Save up to 10% annually on your electricity costs  Support the development of clean, renewable electricity in NY State  Cancel without penalty or risk at any time *If you have your own solar panels or participate in another community solar program, you already receive solar credits and are thereby ineligible to enroll in a community solar program. For every enrollment in this community solar program, $50 will be donated to a Nyack Sustainability Fund, which will help Nyack raise funds for a future sustainability project. Each $50 donation is made by Joule Community Power which administers Rockland Community Power on behalf of the partnering municipalities.
Enrolling in community solar is a way to take action from home, to reduce your electricity bill, and to help support our community and our environment. Since each solar farm can generate only so much power, we encourage residents to enroll soon before the solar farms become fully subscribed. If you wish to enroll in or learn more, please visit: www.rocklandcommunitypower.com/enroll You are invited to join me and the Rockland Community Power team remotely on Tuesday, February 16th from 6:30-7:30 PM at a Public Info Session where we will discuss the program and answer your questions live.
