Snow Emergency Notice
Due to the forecast of an accumulating snowstorm, the Village of Nyack will declare a Snow Emergency beginning Saturday, January 24, 2025 at 11PM.
The Nyack DPW is prepared to respond to this anticipated storm. Plow trucks are prepped and loaded with salt, and our crews are ready to deploy as conditions require. Residents are encouraged to prepare for snow, strong winds, and the possibility of power outages. In the event of a power outage, please notify Orange & Rockland Utilities at www.oru.com.
During the snow emergency, you MUST remove vehicles from the streets and areas marked with red lines or the shaded red zone, as shown on the attached map. We need to keep that Snow Emergency Zone clear to ensure safe and effective snow removal operations, and to ensure clear passage by emergency vehicles. In the past, we have not always towed cars out of the Snow Emergency Zone. But because of the nature of this storm, we need to keep these roads clear.Â
Streets outside of the Snow Emergency Zone - alternate side regulations remain in effect.

After the Storm – Important Reminders Once the storm has passed, residents and property owners are reminded to: - Clear sidewalks promptly in front of homes and businesses to ensure safe passage for pedestrians, including children, seniors, and those with disabilities.
- Remove snow and ice completely, including curb cuts, crosswalk access points, and fire hydrants.
- Do not shovel snow back into the street after plows have cleared roadways, as this creates hazards and slows cleanup efforts!
- Use ice melt or sand responsibly to reduce icy conditions while protecting the environment.
- Be mindful of plow operations and Nyack DPW crews who will continue working after the snowfall ends.
Clearing sidewalks in a timely manner helps keep Nyack safe and accessible for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation and community spirit. |
