Hi all,

Before we get to this very special weekend we have coming up, I wanted to remind everyone that TONIGHT is the first Public Workshop we are holding about getting public input on the $4.5M New York Forward grants we received in March. This is YOUR first (but not only) opportunity to share your thoughts on what kind of projects you’d like to see get funded by the Local Planning Committee.

Remember that the Local Planning Committee is just starting a long six-month process of identifying, reviewing, and then recommending projects for funding to the state, and we will be regularly providing public meetings to ensure transparency and public input.

The workshop is at the Rockland BOCES Gym (the old Nyack High School) at 151 N. Midland, starting at 6:30PM. We’ll have about a half-hour introduction, and the rest of the time you can engage in the workshop and share your thoughts.

Please join us!

BIG WEEK AHEAD

We have a very special weekend coming up, with the Saturday African-American Day Parade and Festival and the Rockland Pride Sunday, both of which are highlights of our year in the Village. Details are below. I’ll be marching in both parades, along with many of my colleagues, and hope I’ll see many of you there.

Also, on a practical matter, pay close attention to the “no parking” signs that will come up this week to warn you about parking on the downtown streets this weekend.

The Pride Sunday and African-American Day Parade are parts of what is shaping up to be a jam-packed week and weekend:

  • Pride Center Chorus June Concert at the Angel, Thursday June 5th, 6:30PM. www.nyack.link/pridechorus.
  • Friday is First Friday, so it’s time for the Nyack Art Collective members art exhibit with a reception from 7PM - 8PM at Burger Loft. www.nyackartcollective.com
  • The Secondhand Shop Hop returns on Saturday with lots of participating shops, running from 11AM-5PM. @nyackvintage on Instagram.
  • The Nyack Flower Market is back in Easter Square on Saturday from 10AM-2PM. @nyackflowermarket on Instagram.
  • Local author Jeanine Cummins will be at Big Red Books on Saturday from 1PM-3PM for a meet-and-greet and book signing. www.bigredbooks.net.
  • During Pride Sunday, Creative Arts workshop will be having the “Fun Fest,” a program for kids from 1:30PM-4:30PM at the Nyack Center with arts & crafts, face painting, games, and more. www.nyackcenter.org.
  • Also during Pride Sunday, Music for Life Creative Arts will have a drop-in concert at the Angel at 3PM.
  • Sunday night, you can listen or (or join in with!) the All Together Now Chorus for their Spring Concert at Living Christ Church in South Nyack (7PM).

CONGRATULATIONS TO VISIT NYACK

I wanted to give a shout out to my friend, colleague, and honorary Nyacker (he’s a “Southie”) Thomas Schneck, accepted an award last night at the Rockland Business Association Dinner on behalf of Visit Nyack for the amazing work they do to promote our little village. This was long overdue – literally, because the award was originally made in 2020, but the dinner was canceled because of COVID. I’m glad Thomas and Visit Nyack finally got the award, and congratulations to Ken Zebrowski and Al Samuels at Visit Nyack for bringing back their annual awards event.
