Nyack Tree Committee

Nyack Tree Committee

Recognizing both the vital benefits of trees and the challenges of maintaining a healthy urban forest, the Village of Nyack is committed to protecting and expanding its community forest through careful planning, proactive management, and public education.

Established in 2014, the Nyack Tree Committee organizes tree planting and maintenance projects and advises village officials on tree-related policies. Since 2015, Nyack has proudly maintained its status as a Tree City USA.

With support from the NYS DEC Urban Forestry Grant Program, the Village commissioned the Davey Resource Group in 2015 to conduct a comprehensive inventory of all public trees. This inventory continues to inform decisions about planting, removal, and maintenance. Nyack later received a $50,000 grant for professional tree care services to help sustain and improve the community forest.

In 2016, the Village launched the Nyack Tree Project, a volunteer-driven initiative focused on planting new trees and caring for young ones. Each spring and fall, residents of all ages come together—assisted by the Department of Public Works—to plant trees along streets and in public parks. To date, more than 400 trees have been planted thanks to the efforts of dedicated volunteers, taxpayer funding, and generous donations from individuals and businesses.
