Kilby Street Sidewalk Improvement Project
The Village has been awarded $244,500 through the Rockland County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) – Fiscal Year 2025 program to construct a new sidewalk along the west side of Kilby Street.
Kilby Street is a small, one-way roadway connecting Route 59 with Upper Depew Avenue. While modest in size, it serves as a significant pedestrian corridor and an important neighborhood connection.
The project will enhance pedestrian safety, accessibility, and overall walkability by providing a dedicated sidewalk along this key route.
The Village is currently awaiting an executed contract from Rockland County. Additional project details and a construction timeline will be shared once the agreement is finalized.
Nyack Senior Center Improvement Project
The Village has been awarded $300,000 through the Rockland County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Fiscal Year 2024. This grant will fund major improvements to the Nyack Senior Center, located at 90 Depew Avenue, Nyack.
The project is currently in the engineering phase. Planned upgrades include:
New roof and gutters
HVAC system improvements
Window replacements
Bathroom upgrades
Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026.These improvements will enhance the comfort, safety, and long-term sustainability of this important community facility.
February 2026
 High Ave – Franklin St Drainage Project Beginning Soon
The High Ave – Franklin St Drainage Improvement Project is scheduled to begin the week of February 23, 2026. This project includes installation of a new drainage pipe along High Avenue. The new pipe will disconnect an existing drainage line that currently runs beneath several homes and redirect it to connect with the culvert drainage system on Franklin Street (Catherine Street area).
Once drainage improvements are complete:
High Avenue will be repaved within the work zone.
Any sidewalks disturbed during construction will be restored.
Driveway aprons impacted by the work will also be repaired.
This project is funded by FEMA as part of recovery efforts related to the September 2021 storm, including remnants of Hurricane Ida. The project will be managed by the Village Engineers, and Tony Casale Inc. is the contractor. Traffic may be detoured at times; however, every effort will be made to keep traffic moving safely and efficiently. Â We appreciate your patience and cooperation during construction.

DPW Salt Shed Construction Project
The Village was awarded $300,000 through a State and Municipal grant to construct a new salt storage shed at the Nyack Department of Public Works (DPW) facility.Â
The project was completed during the Winter 2025 season and provides improved storage capacity and environmental protection for winter road treatment materials. In addition to the construction of the new salt shed, the project included the rebuilding of a retaining wall at the site.
The work was completed by MFD Quality Construction. This investment strengthens the Village’s ability to maintain safe road conditions during winter weather while improving infrastructure at the DPW facility. SAM Project ID #26591.
2025 CDBG Sidewalk Improvement Project – Work will finish in Spring 2026. Cold weather was a factor and the contractor was required to stop work in December 2025. The streets that are part of the sidewalk improvement project will be repaved after the sidewalk work is completed in 2026.

Memorial Park Shoreline Pathway 2025 - 2026
Update: February 2026:Â
The project was out to bid and all bids were opened on January 29, 2026. The Village will award the contract at a special meeting on Friday, February 20, 2026. The construction process will begin immediately. The purpose of the Memorial Park Shoreline Pathway is to rehabilitate and redesign the existing waterfront pathway from the fishing pier to the pedestrian bridge. The project will enhance the area with new landscaping, seating and overlook areas, improved lighting, and designated spaces for public art, memorials, and other site amenities.
This project was designed by Weston & Sampson landscape architects in coordination with a project advisory committee composed of village staff and park stakeholders.
Funding for the project includes $412,276.00 from the Department of State, with an additional $139,092.00 provided as a village match.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2026.

Memorial Park Improvements – ARPA-Funded Projects
The Rockland Resilient Recreation Grant Program, funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), was created to enhance public green spaces in communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. Rockland County allocated $5 million for these equity-focused improvements, awarding grants between $5,000 and $200,000 to nonprofits and local governments. By investing in accessible, high-quality public spaces, this initiative aimed to reduce social inequities, expand economic opportunities, build resilient communities, and improve public health.
Nyack’s Memorial Park Upgrades
The Village of Nyack received $795,000 in ARPA funds to enhance Memorial Park. All projects were ADA-compliant, ensuring accessibility for all residents.

✅ Great Lawn Restoration – $200,000
✔ Restoration of the lower field, including regrading, topsoil, irrigation and removal of clay infield from the ballfield
✔ Regraded and resurfaced the trail from Piermont Avenue to the lawn

Water Main Replacement Project
The Water Main Replacement Project is a multi-phase capital improvement initiative designed to upgrade the Village's aging water infrastructure. This project will replace water mains, valves, and home service connections to the curb stop on select streets within the Village, as well as areas outside Village limits that we serve. By replacing aging pipes nearing the end of their useful life, the project aims to reduce the increasing number of main and service breaks.
- Phase One includes the replacement of approximately 4.9 miles of water main, covering over 10% of the Village’s 44-mile water distribution system.
- The project is structured as a three-phase program, with a total appropriation of $10,000,000.
- Construction began in Summer 2020.
Marina Walkway Waterfront Connection
Completed in Fall 2023, this project enhanced pedestrian access along the waterfront:
- Repaved the Marina Parking Lot
- Installed a new walkway along the western bulkhead, crossing the parking lot and connecting to the pedestrian bridge to Memorial Park
- Added new amenities, including picnic tables, benches, trash receptacles, and lighting
Broadway Sidewalk Project
The Broadway Sidewalk Project, funded entirely by a $250,000 Rockland County Community Development Block Grant (HUD) Fiscal Year 2022Â was completed in 2023. Work included:
- Sidewalk improvements on the west side of Broadway (between Burd Street and Depew Avenue)
- Sidewalk replacements on the north side of Depew Avenue (between S. Broadway and S. Franklin Street)
Burd Street Sidewalk Project
Belleville Construction completed this full sidewalk replacement on both sides of Burd Street, between S. Broadway and Cedar Street, along with portions of Cedar Street.
- Funded by: A $231,140 grant from the Rockland County Community Development Block Grant (HUD) Program. Fiscal Year 2021.Â

Broadway Streetscape Project (TAP)
As part of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), this project enhanced pedestrian and bicycle access through the Village business district. Improvements included:
- New sidewalks, curbing, and ADA-compliant sidewalk corners
- Street trees, planting areas, and upgraded pedestrian crosswalks
- Project area: Cedar Hill Avenue to First Avenue
- Funding:Â $3,312,000 TAP Grant (NYS DOT)
- Project Timeline: Fall 2021 – Summer 2024
This federally funded project aims to create safer pedestrian pathways for students by constructing 10,940 linear feet of new concrete sidewalks. Click the title above for a full overview. Enhancements will include:

Pedestrian Safety Action Plan (PSAP)
Completed in 2021, this project upgraded traffic signalization at three key intersections along Broadway and North Midland Avenue, enhancing pedestrian safety with:
- New pedestrian signals and Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI) systems
- ADA-compliant ramps and high-visibility crosswalk markings
- Funded by: A $375,000 PSAP Grant (NYS DOT)

Marina Connection & Waterfront Pathway
As part of Nyack’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program, this project improved waterfront access by constructing a pathway along the Hudson River connecting Memorial Park to the Village Marina.
- Extension: North to the Nyack Boat Club (as part of a private residential development on Gedney Street, deeded to the Village upon completion)
- Public amenities: Landscaping, lighting, benches, new ADA walkways.

LED Street Light Conversion Program
The LED Street Light Conversion Program, in collaboration with RealTerm Energy and Orange & Rockland Utilities, upgraded Nyack’s street lighting system to energy-efficient LEDs.
- Energy savings: Reduced streetlight energy consumption by 67%
- Cost savings: Annual streetlight maintenance costs reduced by up to 80%
- Environmental impact: Reduced 193 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually (equivalent to removing 41 passenger vehicles from the road for a year)
