Note: Call 845-359-3700 if you require police assistance
What is the Nyack Safety Patrol?
The Nyack Safety Patrol is a foot patrol service provided by a local security company to enhance safety in the downtown retail district, the Marina, and Memorial Park. While not police officers and not armed, Safety Patrol members serve as a visible presence to help deter incidents, assist the public, and support the Orangetown Police Department by acting as extra “eyes and ears” in the community.
The Nyack Safety Patrol is staffed by Platinum Security Group, located in Nanuet and owned by Bert Venner, who has over 20 years in the security business. They are trained and insured by Platinum Security Group in accordance with professional standards and the Village’s insurance consultant. Platinum Security Group will also be partnering with Koz Security Services, led by Mike Kozlin, a familiar face in Nyack who has provided security to many local businesses. We look forward to introducing the staff to local residents, retail shop owners, and others as they start their patrols.
What are the Safety Patrol's duties?
The Nyack Safety Patrol’s role is to be a high-visibility presence downtown and at the waterfront, patrolling by foot, answering questions, providing directions, maintaining a high-profile presence to project a safe environment. The Patrol members will wear high-visibility vests identifying them as the “Nyack Safety Patrol”. Their visible presence intends to preserve an orderly and safe experience for Nyack residents, business owners, and visitors. And they will be in regular contact with the Orangetown Police Department to alert police officers to issues that need their attention.
What is the Safety Patrol’s relationship to other agencies?
The Nyack Safety Patrol will report any incidents, hazards, or risks to the Orangetown Police Department and the Village of Nyack. The Safety Patrol are not police officers, are not armed, and do not have the authority to detain, arrest, or issue citations. The Nyack Safety Patrol has no relationship with federal ICE agencies and will not participate in any law enforcement activity whatsoever. The Safety Patrol program exists through a service contract with the Village of Nyack and in compliance with NYS licensing regulations.
The schedule is under development, but will begin by focusing at the times when the Village downtown is busiest, including weekend evenings. We will not be posting a specific schedule of when the Safety Patrol is in service.
